THE RULES

NO NEW CLOTHES FOR 2011!!!

I'd like to think that I have something that I can wear for any occasion. So the test is whether I can go a whole year without buying anything new.

See if I make it through 2011 without buying any new clothes. Will I stick to the rules? Follow this blog to get ideas for recycling what is in your wardrobe and to save money and vote on my 'recycled' outfits.

WHAT DO I MEAN BY CLOTHES?: work clothes, casual clothes, shores, bags, accessories (this includes sunglasses) , outerwear (COATS, HATS, MITS), UNDERWEAR (!!!).

The only thing I am excluding is sports clothing - it's important to be safe and feel good about yourself when you are exercising and so it is important to have the right shoes and clothing.

I wonder if this includes sport sunglasses? Mine are 13 year old blue Oakleys purchased on at trip to Edmonton, Alberta in 1998...

  1. Hi there frugal. This is an ambitious undertaking. Can you give me some info about yourself? I am trying to figure out just how difficult a task this will be for you to pull off. Do you consider yourself to be a heavy shopper (1-2 times a week; frequent shopper (3-5 times per month); infrequent shopper (1-2 times every other month).
Looking forward to seeing how you do.....

  2. I'm probably what you call an infrequent shopper (1-2 times) every other month but I find that I either buy impulsively wihtout a plan or spend too much at once. For example in February last year I spent about a $1,000 on sports items, Ugg slippers and a couple of tops from Banana Republic. Everything was great exept for the tops from Banana which I haven't worn so that was a waste. A more successful example was while in New York in May I managed to spend $3,500 on 10 pairs of shoes and clothes from Ann Taylor and Theory. I had a list and I mostly stuck to it but when you're in NYC and there are so many tempations it's hard. And happily I have worn everything I bought. Although, I've calmed down in recent years but I think now it is time to put a full stop to it.
